-
- Internet access is an important facet of all higher education institutions,
- and most corporations throughout the US, Western Europe and the Pacific
- Basin. It is also important for small organizations and individuals, yet
- both the cost and usability have been barriers. The PSILink service is

- 300 cities are served.

- PSILink Basic in addition to unlimited messaging provides

- services allow the user "off-line" composition and reading to decrease
- communications costs.
-
- PSI provides the necessary software for MSDOS based PC's to use this service
- at no additional cost - the current Version is 3.2. Only PSI's software
- can access this service, but
- even the smallest PC with a Hayes compatible modem
- can use PSILink. This software is available via anonymous ftp on
- ftp.psi.com in the "psilink" directory as
-
- psilink.zip
-
- Make sure you use
- binary transfer. It is also available on a 3.5" 1.44Mbyte MSDOS floppy
- when you register, no other distribution media is available.
-
- A demonstration account is available for use on the ClassA dialups, the
- name is "guest" with the password of "guest". [The password will change

- =======================
- HoloNet Rates Explained
- =======================
-
- HoloNet's rates are designed to be fair for: low-speed members, high-speed
- members, members who read on-line, and members who download files. The
- connect rate is as low as $2.00 an hour, so that you won't feel rushed.
- And instead having a fixed surcharge for high-speed access, we have a data
- transfer charge, so if you like to browse on-line, you aren't penalized for
- having a quick modem.
-
- HoloNet membership is only $6.00 a month which is applied towards your
- charges. An annual membership is just $60.00 - you save $12.00!
-
- HoloNet connect charges are $2.00/hour off-peak and $4.00/hour peak plus
- network access surcharges.
-
- There is charge of $1.00/MB off-peak and $2.00/MB peak for each MB you
- transfer in excess of 1 MB/hour. Data storage in excess of 100K is billed
- at $1.00/MB per month.
-
- Depending upon which network you use to access HoloNet there may be an
- additional network access surcharge. There is no surcharge if you call the
- Berkeley HoloPacket access number or if you telnet in not using HoloNet's
- special PSINet access.
-
- The tables below show the exact charges incurred.
-
-
- =============
- HoloNet Rates
- =============
-
- BASIC RATES
-
- Membership includes: $6.00 connect credit per month
- 100K of Data Storage per month
-
- Membership: $6.00 per month, or
- $60.00 per year -- Save $12.00!
- Data Storage: $1.00 per MB per month (after the first 100K)
-
-
- Connect Rate includes: 1 MB of Data Transfer per hour
-
- Off-Peak Peak
- Connect Rate: $2.00 $4.00 per hour (includes first MB/hour)
- Data Transfer: $1.00 $2.00 per additional MB
-
- Members are billed for data transfered to and from HoloNet. Currently this
- is data transfered between a members computer and HoloNet and data between the
- Internet and HoloNet. So, there is no data transfer charge for sending or
- receiving mail to or from other HoloNet members. Additionally, the following
- Internet services are exempt from data transfer charges: talk, finger, ping,
- traceroute, and receiving Internet E-mail.
-
- There may be a surcharge to access HoloNet depending upon which access
- method you use. Additionally, in the future, some services may incur a
- surcharge. You will be notified before any surcharges are incurred for
- services.
-
- HoloNet Peak is Monday thru Friday 8am - 5pm except Holidays. Holidays are:
- New Year's Day, Presidents Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day,
- and Christmas Day. Sessions that span a peak/off-peak periods are split into
- separate sessions. HoloNet itself is billed in one-minute increments. The
- time zone of the HoloNet peak depends upon which access network you use.

-
- ABOUT OUR DATA TRANSFER RATES
-
- HoloNet rates are designed not to rush you. Your charges are based upon
- how long you are on the system and the amount of data transfered.
-
- At 2400 bps less than a megabyte of information can be transfered to you per
- hour. So, if you're just reading, you probably don't need to be concerned
- about the data transfer rate as most people can't read a megabyte (1,048,576
- characters) in an hour.
-
- If you're uploading or downloading, you aren't penalized for having faster
- access. The faster your modem, the less on-line time you'll need to spend
- on-line. So, you can save time and money by having a faster modem.
-
- Table of maximum data transfer rates (not including compression):
- One-way Two-way
- 2400 bps .824 MB/hr 1.648 MB/hr
- 9600 bps 3.296 MB/hr 6.592 MB/hr
- 14400 bps 4.807 MB/hr 9.613 MB/hr
-
